Day 84 Thursday 7th July

It was cold last night with the temperature getting down to about 5 degrees. Luckily we have a heater and we were nice and warm.
We went to the HMAS Sydney II memorial this morning where a lovely lady gave us a talk on the memorial and the sinking of the Sydney during World War 2. It was not found until 2008 in over 2000 metres of water off Point Steep in Shark Bay. There were a lot of symbols in the design of the sculpture.
After that we went for a drive along the coast of Geraldton. There are some beautiful beaches along here and some lovely houses facing the water. We then had lunch at the Dome on the foreshore in the city followed by a visit to the Museum.
It was very interesting reading about the sinking of the Batavia, Zuytdorp and other boats as well as the history of the Geraldton area.
We then drove down past the wharf where all the fishing boats and trawlers were moored.
