Day 82 - 83 Tuesday 5th July & Wednesday 6th July

Pink Lake

The Mill - Cpt. Sanford's House  1853

Cpt. Sanford's house

Kalbarri

Convict ruins - Lynton

We left Kalbarri this morning at about 8.00. We had hoped to see the pelican feeding, however, there were no pelicans yet so we moved on.
We watched a yacht going out of the harbour which was a scary thing as there are lots of rocks and crashing waves, but he managed very well.
It was interesting to see the fields of farmland on the way to Geraldton compared to what we have seen over the last few weeks.
We continued on to Port Gregory where we saw the Pink Lake. This lake is pink because of the beta-carotene in the algae which is growing in the water.
Then we went to Lynton where there were some convict ruins. This was where convicts were hired out to farmers to assist with their farming. These buildings were used in 1853.
Captain Sanford was the local farmer and we saw his house which overlooks the water. This house was built around 1853 as well.  When they saw whales in the water they quickly set out to catch them as part of their whaling industry.
We then continued on to Geraldton. This is a lovely town, much bigger than any we have been in in W.A. It has a Target, Bunnings, Coles, Woolworths, MacDonald’s and KFC.
Distance travel 188 kms.
Total distance travelled 12837 kms
Day 83  Wednesday 6th July
Go the maroons!
It is getting pretty cold here. We definitely need jumpers, long pants and the fantastic bed socks my beautiful daughter sent me for my birthday. Yeah! It is also very windy here which is why lots of the trees are bent over.
We saw the old gaol which was in use until 1984. Incredible! It was very small and made of stone and really cold. They have converted it into a craft centre.
We drove along the foreshore which looks great with lots of parkland. There were lots of beaches and beautiful blue water.
