Days 59 - 60 12th June & 13th June

We left Julie’s this morning at about 8 and travelled to Karijini National Park. The landscape rose from sea level to over 700 metres but the countryside was very harsh. There were a number of dry riverbeds and very little grass cover.
We had morning tea at Bea Bea Creek and spent a lot of money on petrol at the Auski Roadhouse.
In the afternoon we went to the visitor’s centre.
Distance travelled today 361 Km
Total distance travelled 9150 Km
Day 60 Monday 13th June
Happy Queen’s Birthday Holiday
It is freezing cold here, mainly because of the wind. The temperature today did not get above 20 degrees. It was a shame as there were some beautiful pools to swim in but we couldn’t , not because of crocodiles, but because of the cold.
Firstly, this morning we went to Dale’s Gorge and climbed down to the Fortescue Falls. They were beautiful with lots of red rocks and clear water. Then we walked along to the Fern Pool.
After Fern Pool we walked to the end of Dale’s Gorge to see the lookout at Circular Pool and the Three Ways Lookout.
We then drove about 40kms to the Eco Retreat which is a safari tent style camping area. Unfortunately they don’t sell food so we ate our apples for lunch. Then we went to Weano Gorge. We went to the Oxer Lookout and the Junction Pool Lookout. This is where the four gorges meet. They are the Red Gorge, Hancock Gorge, Joffre Gorge and Weano Gorge. This was very steep and deep. I certainly could not walk down there but apparently they do abseiling from here.
On the way home we went into Kalamina Gorge. It was not as high as the others but still very pretty.
