Today is our last day in Broome. We went shopping in Chinatown and bought some souvenirs and then did our grocery shopping. Then we went spent a couple of hours on the beach for our last swim. It was beautiful. There were a few clouds in the sky, the first we have seen in 7 weeks, but they meant nothing. There was even surf. Well Doug thought so. There were a few waves. It was so beautiful. Later that night we went back to the foreshore to watch our last Cable Beach sunset. We had fish and chips for tea as the sun set over the ocean.
Day 52 Sunday 5th June
We left Broome this morning at about 8.30 and drove to Eighty Mile Beach. It was a long, boring drive. The landscape was very flat with scrub and very few trees. There were some beautiful purple flowers along the way, but most of it looked like saltpan. We drove in, thinking we were going to the end of the nowhere and then arrived at this bustling beachside caravan park. We are looking forward to fishing tomorrow.

Day 53 Monday 6th June
Happy Queensland Day
Today was very hot. We went down to the beach at about 11.30 and Doug went fishing. Apparently 2 hours before the high tide is the best time to fish. He caught 2 blue threadfin salmon. We filleted them and cooked them up for tea. They were delicious. Geoff and Lorelle only caught a couple of little ones that they threw back.
Day 54 Tuesday 7th June
It rained overnight. This was the first rain we had had since we started. Unfortunately it was not enough to wash the van.
We drove along the beach and collected some shells. It still looks like rain so we shall see tomorrow. There is a chill in the air too. Maybe this is the beginning of winter for us.
Day 55 Wednesday 8th June
We left Eighty Mile Beach this morning at 8.00 after some light rain during the night. Our car and van are dreadfully dirty with red dust. We drove to Port Hedland and we are staying with Julie and Greg, camped in their front yard. The road was good but the drive was boring. It was very flat and very low, at times 40 metres below sea level.
