Day 12 Tuesday 26th April

We left Newcastle Waters Rest Area at 7.40 this morning. The vegetation has changed and there are a lot more trees between here and Mataranka. Temperature has still been quite hot although the nights are cool.
We passed through Daly Waters where there was a monument to John Macdouall Stuart. There is a tree here with a big S carved into presumably done by Stuart when he trekked through this area in 1856.
We arrived at Mataranka at about midday and after setting up camp, went out to Bitter Springs for a swim. The water temp was about 32 degrees and was lovely to swim in. The area had been severely hit by floods this year and was a bit of a mess with fronds and trees everywhere, but the water was very clear.

We watched the barramundi being fed this afternoon and I got to feed one. They certainly splash.
